Hi, friends!
Right now the goal is to raise awareness for the forum, and help promote the authors who post here. I know it will be fairly slow at first, just like any project in its incipience, so have patience, before long we'll be flying like fireworks.
If there's enough interest in the forum, I'll move on to create a promotional website for Authors Not On Amazon. I really believe this is an idea whose time has come, especially now that 'zon is publishing AI books.
This next bit is not to diss Amazon, but just to share my findings, Amazon refuses to reveal any figures re: the number of AI books on their site. However, they permit 3 uploads per author per day, which comes out to 90+ AI books per AI "author" a month.. An estimated 7500 books are published through the KDP program per day. This doesn't include the countless authors on Amazon who are NOT KDP members. Again, 'zon won't release statistical information about this.
Also, I'm looking at different promo opps for indie writers, as well as various other self-publishing sites, and will post my findings here.
And ... Site Reviews!
I'm currently on Draft2Digital and will be reviewing this company shortly.. Note, they also distribute print books to Amazon, no matter what Google says. This is because D2D doesn't do its own distribution. It uses Ingram's network.
I've emailed Ingram support but they are VERY slow to respond. One thing I love about D2D is their excellent human support team. What I don't like is that they rely on a different distributor for books, and they tell me they have no control over where the books go.
Stay tuned for reviews of sites like Lulu and BookBaby. The former does publish to Amazon if you opt for global distribution. However, they also have a charming online bookstore and I'll soon put it to the test, and see if it's still charming after that ![]()
At a quick look-over, I see BookBaby basically tries to sell you stuff. In fact, when I emailed them for information I was contacted by a sales representative. He went away when he realized he wasn't going to get any money out of me.
More details to come. If you've had experience with these or other distributors I'm totally happy to hear from you!
Cheers,
Sylvia
